Traverse City Whiskey Company’s Barrel Proof Bourbon Named Best Small Batch Bourbon at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Most Premium Expression in the Michigan Brand’s Line-Up Earns Double Gold Medal

Traverse City Whiskey Co. (TCWC), a premium whiskey and bourbon portfolio made in Michigan and known as the “The Whiskey of the North,” is proud to announce its Barrel Proof Limited-Edition Bourbon was recently awarded a Double Gold Medal at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC). This year’s event, one of the most influential competitions of its kind, featured nearly 3,000 spirits, the largest in its 19-year history.

TCWC’s Barrel Proof Bourbon is having a moment as it also captured Gold at The 8thAnnual Denver International Spirits Competition (2019) and was named among the ‘Top 100 Spirits of 2018’ by Wine Enthusiast magazine.

As the most premium offering in the Traverse City Whiskey Co. line-up, Barrel Proof features a mashbill of 75% Corn, 21% Rye and 4% Malted Barley, is barreled between 115-120 proof and bottled four or more years later. Once the Barrel Proof cask reaches maturity, it is pumped through a filter to remove any residual charcoal and transferred directly into the bottles. It’s commonly referred to as the purest, untouched version of the whiskey.

“Not all whiskey barrels are created equal. We reserved our most flavorful for this Limited Edition release. This is Traverse City Whiskey, pure and uncut, bottled at full barrel proof,” said Chris Fredrickson, co-founder of Traverse City Whiskey Co. “We crafted Barrel Proof with life’s simpler moments in mind — it’s meant to be enjoyed smoothly and richly, or whichever way you please.”

Arguably more popular than Barrel Proof is the company’s American Cherry Edition, which features more than 10 pounds of local Montmorency Sour Cherries straight from the “Cherry Capital of the World.”Rounding out the award-winning portfolio are the brand’s XXX Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Port Barrel Finish and North Coast Rye. The distilling team, led by Fredrickson, strives to make quality products, inspired by patented distilling techniques invented by his great grandfather that were approved by the US PTO during the Prohibition era. Each whiskey is made in a 400-gallon, custom Kothe still that is naturally cooled by Michigan ground water.

TCWC Barrel Proof Bourbon is available in 750ml bottles at both on- and off-premise establishments in the following markets: MI, IL, WI, NY, DC, FL, CA, NV and AZ. The suggested retail price is $79.99, which varies slightly by market.

Traverse City Whiskey Co. Selects Detroit to Open its First Tasting Room Outside its Hometown

Traverse City Whiskey Co. Selects Detroit to Open its First Tasting Room Outside its Hometown

“Whiskey of the North” Will Offer Diverse Portfolio of Award-Winning Expressions Alongside Newly-Refurbished Como’s Restaurant

Detroit, MI (February, 2019) Traverse City Whiskey Co. (TCWC), also known as the “Whiskey of the North,” has ventured slightly southeast within the state to open its first-ever Tasting Room in Metro Detroit come Springtime. The bar will be located alongside Como’s, the longstanding neighborhood restaurant, at 22812 Woodward at Nine Mile in historic Ferndale. The property was recently acquired by Peas and Carrots Restaurant Group, which is in the process of renovating the space. TheTasting Room will operate as a separate entity.

TCWC has been eyeing The Motor City for some time, as a way to establish a footprint in a major metropolitan area that’s well-recognized for its food and beverage programs and a stone’s throw from their home distillery in Traverse City, which houses the company’s original tasting room – The Stillhouse. The brand hopes to offer a “taste of up north” to their Detroit fan base, replicating everything from the rustic woodsy vibe down to its classic whiskey cocktails.

Entry to the new bar will be on the opposite side of the restaurant patio, off of Woodward. In warmer months, a garage door that acts as the Tasting Room’s window, can be lifted to give guests an open-air feel – like on the bay of Lake Michigan. Inside the venue, thirsty customers can choose from among 16 barstools or 12 high-top tables, which fill the remaining Northern Michigan-themed space. An interior door between the Tasting Room and Como’s will connect the two spaces, but the atmosphere and ambiance of each property will be distinct and unique.

Scheduled to open this spring, the brand’s full portfolio of whiskey will be available to purchase on-site, which includes its signature American Cherry Edition, Straight Bourbon XXX Whiskey, North Coast Rye, Port Barrel Finish and Barrel Proof Bourbon. Situated in the “Cherry Capital of the World,” the brand recently introduced all-natural Premium Cocktail Cherries to its lineup, which are currently available at Meijer locations nationally and online via Amazon. The cherries will be used to enhance the Tasting Room’s signature cocktails and sold alongside the whiskey by the jar. Bar bites will also be available from a condensed Como’s menu, including their unique take on Detroit Pizza.
